Who is the Board?

The Board consists of nine members who are elected by you to serve a three year term. You choose three Board members each year in the school election held on the third Tuesday in April. This method of arranging the terms of office insures that six experienced Board members are serving at all times.

What Does Your Board Do?

The Board is the district's policy making body. Its primary task is the formulation and evaluation of all policies necessary for the operation of the school district. Your Board of Education is a legislative branch of the school district. Examples of the Board's legal responsibilities include appointing and dismissing personnel, and adopting an annual budget.

Board of Education Meetings

Your Board encourages your attendance and participation at all meetings. Please feel free to express your comments, questions and concerns. During all Board meetings, opportunities are provided for the public to speak. These times are noted on the agenda. If you wish to speak, please raise your hand and be recognized by the presiding officer. Before you speak, please identify yourself. Regular Board meetings will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Tenakill Middle School Library according to to the following schedule:

Executive or closed sessions may be held to discuss such matters as personnel, litigation and negotiations. While, by law, the public is excluded from these sessions, formal Board action on these matters is taken only at an official public meeting.

Members of the Closter Board of Education serve a three year term of office. Three Board members are elected each year so that a minimum of six experienced people are serving at all times. The Board meets at least twice a month. All committee- of-the-whole meetings and regular meetings are open to the public and input from the audience is encouraged. The primary function of the Board of Education is the formulation and evaluation of policies.
